Mankato Family Photographer: Baby Taylor Makes Four

When Becky booked a family mini session for her family, I got really excited because it meant that I was finally going to meet baby Taylor. Then I panicked, because the Southern Minnesota wind had pretty much destroyed all of the fall leaves. But, after some scouting runs with my boys tucked in the back seat eating snacks, I managed to find a spot that still had a few trees intact. (I think every photographer in Mankato had done the same thing! There were loads of us out there on one of our last warm days before the snow flies.) When the family arrived at the park, I was greeted by their first born, Lucy, a beautiful pony of a dog. I always forget how big she is! We got Taylor snuggled into her adorable little jacket and fuzzy boots, and then set off to capture some memories. Tony filled me in on how the Vikings snuck in a win (or as he put it, the other team just fell apart and lost) while Taylor sucked down a bottle. Because, what newborn eats when their parents try to feed them at home before a photo session? It is such fun for me to see new parents dote on their new ones, and Tony and Becky were no exception. They snuggled that little girl like experts who had been at it for years. You can tell that Taylor is fiercely loved!

Back Family

Sometimes, as a photographer, you get to capture one of your favorite families. My family has some pretty great neighbors. They are kind, thoughtful, helpful. They are also hilarious, sarcastic, and enjoy beers around the campfire. They really are the best. We are lucky to call them friends! Rosi is the kind of mom that knows how to get what she wants out of her kids. Two words. Fruit snacks. I have never seen two little boys listen so intently when their mom asked them to stop moving. It was comical. And I high fived her, more than once! I’m sure all parents have seen how different siblings can be. My own boys are the same way. Logan is as considerate and sweet as Caden is rough and tough. It’s so fun to watch them play! We had a great time out in the woods, I even got the whole family to dance. Adam and Rosi must practice, because they both busted the same move, and I promptly lost it laughing so unfortunately, the focus of those images is not stellar. Otherwise, I’d be sharing their fabulous moves with all of you!

Carlson Family

I’ve already gushed about this family and their brand new baby girl, but we snuck in a family session to welcome the little bundle and I just have to share. They are the best! Watching Oliver become a “big boy” is just as tough on me as watching my own boys grow up too fast. He is my little buddy. And seriously, just look at his outfit! Could he be any more adorable? I really don’t think so. I’ve know Riley for what seems like forever. He can be so sarcastic, and a down right pain sometimes. But, the intense love and sense of protection he shows for his family is my favorite thing about him. It’s a big part of what makes me what our kids to grow up together. And the ladies of the family… I’m the first to admit that I don’t have a ton a close girlfriends. But, Cassie passed the test with flying colors. I’m blessed to have her in my life. As for Stella, well if she turns out to be anything like the rest of the Carlson clan, she’ll be just fine.

Polzin family shenanigans!

I am lucky enough to live in the same town as my best college friend! Times have definitely changed being that we threw four kids into the mix. Sometimes it’s been hard to keep in touch with each other even when our kids were playing in the same room. But, yesterday we took the kids out for a nature walk and had a full conversation while they played! Amanda and I got pretty excited. Full, uninterrupted sentences everyone! If you have young kids, you know just how amazing that really is. Here’s one more thing to get excited about, getting Chris to cooperate long enough to capture some family memories.Sometimes, I had to distract him just like his 2 year old son. He’s quite the goof ball!  That same playful side makes for fun images though. So, I’m really not complaining. This is the dad that’s willing to pick up his kids and toss them around, play chase and tickle without any complaining. You can tell they have a lot of fun! Thanks for keeping me on my toes Polzin family!

Welcome baby Stella!

So, I’ve known Stella’s dad, Riley, for what seems like forever. He and Tyler grew up together, and we spent a lot of time together as kids. Riley and Cassie’s family have become our closest friends. Its the kind of friendship that I know we will pass on to our kids. As you can tell, they are pretty special to me. And, without further adieu, meet Stella Elisabeth Carlson. Born October 16th at 7 pounds 8 ounces and 22 inches long. She is a healthy, beautiful baby girl! This little girl must have some fight in her, because she made me work to get her to sleep. It’s good though, because she will need a little fight in her to keep up with all of the boys she’s going to have to play with. It seems like all of our friends just keep having more boys, so when Stella showed up, well it was pretty exciting! I even bought a new outfit on my Click Away trip just in case she was a girl. I can’t wait to see what the future brings for this sweet little one.

Click Away 2015: Inspiration in San Antonio

Raise your hand if you have way too much to do! All. The. Time. Between keeping up with two little boys and their ever changing moods, trying to keep our home looking like we aren’t (always) surrounded by extreme chaos, actually spending time with (not next to) my husband, and running a part time photography business, usually it feels like there just isn’t enough time. But! Yep, there’s a but…

But, I got to take 5 glorious days all to myself and travel to San Antonio for Click Away 2015. 5 days where my only job was to wear clothes that were not covered in snot, drink Starbucks, eat at fun restaurants where someone else cooked, and learn from some of my favorite photographers. Ladies and gentleman, it was amazing!! I came back with so many ideas for my business, and new techniques to try out in my sessions.

Here are some favorites from my time away. Some are from boutique classes, some are from a beautiful golden hour shoot, and some are just from exploring the city.

I’m excited, I’m inspired, and I’m recharged. As a mom, or actually just as a parent, that’s so important. So, if your feeling spread a little too thin, find your own inspiration. And carve out some time for you. You’re worth it!

The Keech Family

Check out this beautiful family. Their smiles were easy and their attitudes were positive, which made for a completely enjoyable evening. They were so much fun. Little Silas did an amazing job putting up with our frequent requests to be stationary, and Dad was always ready to play which kept a smile on the little guys face! There’s a lot of love here!

Kael is ONE!

I almost can’t believe that it’s been a whole year since this little guy was a newborn. It’s been a blessing to photograph his journey from newborn to one because it has reunited me with his mama! Kenna and I went to high school together and it’s been fun to catch up and watch her little boy grow. (Plus, she always brings farm fresh eggs…which is awesome!) He has been so much fun to play with! Take a stroll down memory lane with me and watch Mr. Kael grow up to be a sweet, curious, playful ONE year old. Happy birthday buddy!

Brand new.

Just a stroll in the park.

The other day, I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with another twin mom and her family. For awhile we weren’t sure if it was ever going to happen because the weather was just not cooperating with us! But, Mother Nature finally worked it out and off we went. These kiddos have so much enthusiasm and spunk! They were ready to explore the trails, climb over bridges and pick flowers. It was so much fun! (And exhausting!) Big brother sure has a lot of love for his little brother and sister.  Even though he wouldn’t admit it, it showed in the way he took their hands, pulled their wagon and shared all of the things he discovered. They’re a lucky bunch!

Howdy Cowgirl!

I’ve known Kelsey for years, but we don’t see each other often. So, I was excited at the opportunity to drive out to their family farm and capture some images of her 18 month old daughter. I was pleasantly surprised to pull up onto their beautiful farm and see the light filtering through the trees in their pasture. Hello every photographers dream! Between the beautiful light and the gorgeous family, they made my job easy. Adair is a true farm girl, from the boots on her feet to the dirt on her face. Their love for each other was so clear in the easy smiles and laughs and the way that they played together. What a fun night!
